Who We Are

Master Gardeners are trained volunteers who provide free, balanced, non-judgmental advice to local gardeners. Master Gardeners are people passionate about gardening that have taken the necessary training and commitments to become an official Master Gardener within their local chapter. The Prince Edward County group of Master Gardeners includes knowledgeable and experienced green-thumbs from PEC as well as the Belleville area. Our goal is to provide gardening advice, education, and advocacy to our community – come grow with us!

Master gardeners are skilled gardeners who are recruited locally. After an orientation session, candidates take an eligibility test, then register for online courses from the University of Guelph or Dalhousie University.

In return, participants provide horticultural information to the public via garden clinics, telephone, letters, displays, workshops, radio and newspaper articles. For example, the Prince Edward Master Gardeners attend a booth at the County Garden Show in Picton as well as Milford, to answer horticultural questions from the public

Our monthly meetings are held on the second Saturday of every month downstairs at the Picton Public Library.  You are welcome to attend a meeting, you can let us know you’d like to come by filling out the contact form and select “Attend one of our meetings”.  If you give us a telephone number in your message, one of us will get back to you with any details or questions you might have and we can get to know each other a bit before the meeting!

Indigenous Land Acknowledgement:

For thousands of years, the Huron-Wendat, Anishnaabe and the Haudenosaunee peoples have walked gently on this land with respect, a deep spiritual connection and knowledge and we also acknowledge the Mohawk, Algonquin, Metis, Cree and Inuit Nations.

We recognize that this land we now live and work upon is unceded land and strive to build a relationship with the original peoples of this land based on respect and collaboration.  We honour their commitment to protecting and healing the land and wish to learn to do so as well.
